| Wanted: Stargate Atlantis Fanfiction Author for Academic Study |
[19 Jul 2009|12:38pm] |
Hello
As some of you may already know, I'm working on a Masters Degree and my thesis is about Mary Sues; to illustrate my arguments for the committe, I've spent the last few years writing a pretty epic Mary Sue called "Slipstream", and it's sequel, "Quick To Say Yes". One of the aspects of Mary Sues that I want to investigate is called the 'Many Sue' (that is, more than one Mary Sue character inserted into the same story) and to do this, I've been working on another whack of stories in the universe. (My aims and ideals can be found in further detail here, in an essay called "Navigating the Slipstream")
Where I need help is with a story that is set in "Stargate Atlantis". To really expand my definition of Mary Sue, I've been inviting secondary authors to write stories with my Mary Sue in whichever fandom they want (theoretical question I'm trying to prove: it is still a Mary Sue if other people author her?). However, the author who committed, and even wrote a good chunk of, the SGA story had to drop out. This has left me with a good start to the story and lots of fragments and outlines to work with. I would write it myself, but it would defeat the purpose of having other people write Marie.
So, my plea is this: I would like to work with an author who has a firm grasp on SGA, is willing to work with the fragments I already have and the vauge outline, but wants to throw their own spin and creativity into the story. The outline itself is extremely flexible (I have a place where it has to start, where it has to end, and one or two things that have to happen in the middle but are mostly lines that require saying for later chapters) and I really want the writer to put their own stamp on it. I would compile all the fragments for you and send you notes, and answer any and all questions, and would be totally okay with you leaving out some fragments or jostling their order if you wanted to. You could of COURSE cross post it to your own archives and blogs.
My secondary author got in one really fan-bloody-tastic chapter and had to pull out for personal reasons. So, I am asking again - is there anyone who is willing to step up, and take the amazing two chapters I was provided with and run with it? Once more, the previous parts of the story (and resources) are here:
Slipstream Slipstream II: Quick To Say Yes
Navigating the Slipstream (essay) The Annotated Mary Sue Checklist
This story (tentatively titled "Slipstream: Atlantian Interlude") will be third in the series, to be followed up by the forth and final story where secondary authors are invited to write any chapter they like about any fandom.
The timeline is flexible but I would love to have the complete story by the end of September - and hey, chapter one and two are already done for you!
I look forward to hearing from someone!

| Cautious Optimism: Generic Ortho Tri-Cyclen Lo |

Hi birthcontrol:
We have some slightly confusing, but cautiously positive news about a generic for Ortho Tri-Cyclen Lo in the U.S.
In layman's terms, here's what happened:
The company Teva made an "at-risk launch" (meaning they kinda sorta had permission to do it) of a generic for OTC-lo, under the name Tri-Lo Sprintec. You may be able to get it at your pharmacy.
The problem is that they only kinda sort had permission to do it and Johnson & Johnson, who makes OTC-lo, is suing Teva.
Teva and J&J have a temporary agreement that Teva will not ship any more generic OTC-lo until July 29 or until a court rules (presumably whichever comes first.)
Hopefully what will happen is what happened with Yasmin - that the two companies settle out of court, with the generic being produced and the brand name manufacturer getting a piece of the profits for a while.
So in the meantime, stay tuned! If you're given Tri-Sprintec Lo, drop us a line in comments below, and let us know whereabouts in the country you are, if your insurance covered it, etc. I saw it on the shelves of my local CVS here in Washington, DC.
We'll update as soon as we know more. Hopefully we'll have permanently good news.
As always,
dindin

| Wanted: Creative Photographic Partner |
[19 Jul 2009|11:16pm] |

Hi I'm currently based in the Philippines right now and I am looking for a creative partner in terms of practicing photography. For now Im just looking for another person to bounce i ideas off of and to make them a reality and maybe if things go well take our work to the next level. I need someone that can offer that edge and push for photography, someone as photographically passionate as me, and someone who works hard at it, basically i need someone that can actually bring something to the table and not someone i have to baby-sit. I live in Manila right now, so if you are interested please leave a comment on this post.

| hmmmm ok dynamic choose your own adventure simulates fictionalized worlds experiances |
[19 Jul 2009|03:30am] |
I was super psyched once about this project I've been working on in java. It's basically an dynamic interactive fiction world you create as an author and let people go through, via the paths you create for them. For instance one scene has some text and any number of choices or "paths" that lead to another arbitrary scene, which leads to other scenes, etc. You can have any scene point to any scene. You end up creating branches of scenes and these are all organized into little islands of experience called "chapters."
I am a little tired right now but maybe tomorrow can post a link with the beta for download.
If there are any writers who would be interested in this, which is creative a fictionalized universe experianced through choices /and or actions by the user from scene to scene, would love to hear from you!
It's written in java to run on windows / mac / web browser as applet. And I'm looking into an iPhone version possibly too... Like fast paced choose your on adventure, amped up a thousand times.

| Ortho tricyclen: regular to lo? |
[19 Jul 2009|03:54am] |
I've been on the normal dosage of ortho tricyclen for the last little while.
I used to be on ortho tricyclen lo, but my doctor switched me to the regular dose because it's the only kind that comes in generic, so I have to pay less.
I just got it refilled over the phone, after running out (class made it impossible for me to see the doctor directly at the exact time I needed the prescription to be rewritten, long story). When I went to pick it up from the pharmacy, though, I noticed it was back to ortho tricyclen lo, not regular. I was literally on my last pill from my last refill, so I didn't have time to wait for Monday and call the doctor again about lo vs. regular. A long time ago, my doctor told me that for my body weight (or whatever) there was no significant difference between regular and lo.
Is it okay to switch from lo to regular and not worry about anything weird going on? My regular doctor is in another state (I'm living away for a little while, not enough time to need a new doctor here though, again long story).
I just wanted to make sure it was okay to keep having sex normally and everything when going from regular to lo from one month to the next.

Hi!
Is anyone else having problems with the lomo shop? I'm trying to buy some stuff from there, but when I get up to payment, it comes up with a 400 Bad Error...Anyone else having this problem?
I've tried contacting the website about it, but I've got no reply yet (I sent it a week ago)
I just want to get a 35mm back for my Diana :( (and some other stuff though)

| call for artists (visual arts) |
[18 Jul 2009|10:37pm] |
Hello,
A grassroots humanitarian network, Project Sarurun will soon open an online art store. The sale of artwork will support whichever nonprofit or charity Project Sarurun chooses to sponsor for that year (This year it is Namaste Kathmandu). If you are interested in possibly donating artwork for sale in the Project Sarurun art store, please read more about Project Sarurun to see the good things you would be contributing to and contact them to express interest. At this time, Project Sarurun cannot offer any commission, but does hope that a partnership would be beneficial for drawing more attention to your work, and of course, you would be free to continue doing business with any customers who find your work this way.
There will be another post when the store is open.
